Back from the dead

No, I'm not referring to my posting habits by the title. I'm talking about my laptop. If anyone is looking for a recommendation on a brand of laptop to buy, look no further. I bought a Dell Inspiron 6000 in July 2005 (4 years ago). It served me well for a number of years. The other day I thought it was a gonner. It stopped charging the battery or powering on. After deciding that it must be the plug where the charger connects to the computer, I opened up the laptop to see if I could fix it. Soldering scares me, but that's about the only PC surgery I know. When I opened it up, lo and behold I couldn't find a single problem. Unfortunately no fun night of soldering would follow.

After this, I figured the laptop was finished and started looking for a new one. In a last ditch effort, I hooked it back up and wiggled the wire on the charger, and the charging light came on. I realized that it must be the wire in my charger. Thankfully a generic charger on eBay is only $11.50 for my machine. It came in the mail today and I am back up and running.

In short, my 4 year old Dell is back at it. With all the abuse I've put it through (I am a CS major, right?) I'm surprised it hasn't melted. Go Dell!
